Make a Statement!

A random burst of inspiration hit me today, and I decided to make this super cute necklace out of beads that I had lying around.

At first I tried using string to bead them together like you used to bead those beady baby animal things together, but that didn’t work. So then I decided to use fabric and glue them onto that.

So I arranged the beads, and after a few trial and errors I had the right layout that I wanted. Play around with the positioning of the beads and see how they look in different ways!

Next, I traced around them with a light coloured pencil crayon so that I would be able to see the lines.  Make sure that you use a fabric that does not fray!! This is very important, otherwise your necklace may unravel right off of your neck. The tracing that you are making is the piece that the beads are going to be glued onto. I used an old random piece of felt backed leather that I had lying around. I glued the beads onto the felt side so that they would stick really well. As a bonus, the leather side was flush against my skin and that kind of helped to hold the necklace in place and keep it from sliding around. Make sure when you are tracing, you get as close to the beads as possible without moving them. Try and manoeuvre your pencil crayon under the raised sides of the beads.

After you’re done tracing, you should have something that looks like this:

- note that the tracing is smaller than the bead arrangement!

Now cut out the tracing that you have made. Try and cut about 1/8 of an inch inside of the yellow line, because when I made my tracing, I noticed that it was still too big even though I tried to keep as close to the beads as possible.

Try and make it look something like this:

Now you can start to glue your beads on! I took a photo of the proposed arrangement so that I would remember exactly how I wanted to place the beads. To glue the beads on, I just used a hot glue gun and that seemed to hold them rather well!

After I got all of the beads glued on in the proper positions, I trimmed any bits of the fabric that you could still see, using really pointy scissors so that I could clip the curves really close.

Once that is all taken care of, take some ribbon in the colour of your choice and cut two strips of equal length. I cut the ends at a sharp angle so that they would look nice. Then glue them onto the back of the fabric.

To make sure that the ends of the ribbon don’t fray, I used fray stop on them. Such a useful little product! You may want to wait for this to dry a bit before you start handling it.

Now, once it’s dry, flip it over, tie it around your neck and voila! You now have a gorgeous statement necklace to wear and get complimented on ;)

I wore it with plain black so that it would really stand out. Also, I feel like a v-neck was key here based on the shape that I chose to make the necklace.

I’m tempted to make a bracelet with the leftover beads.

Nothing bothers me more than..

So, I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a long time, but school got in the way and then I was too lazy over the break, but I’ve found some time now so here goes.

Inconsistant Texters….

You know the type, they text you back right away for about 5 minutes and then all of a sudden you don’t hear from them for hours, so all you can think is “wtf, you just texted me like 2 seconds ago, so I don’t understand what you’re doing now that’s apparently so important, just text me back, it’s not that hard”

This is often said when venting to your best friend (and in some cases just to yourself hehe) about the guy that you like, because it always seems that they never know how to text properly.

Then, all of a sudden your phone vibrates and you get all excited for about a fraction of a second, only to open your phone and realize that a) its your mom, or b) an annoying guy that likes you, but you have no interest in. It’s never the guy that you like. Ever.

I think consistent texting is now a quality that I’m going to look for in guys haha
